It's pretty hard to believe that today is our 5 year wedding anniversary! Whoa, how did that happen?! We have certainly done a lot... moved to Colorado for grad school, we became parents and our spunky Kate joined the family, we moved to Iowa for med school, Amelia joined our family, and Tim is now less than one year away from becoming a doctor... a lot has changed...but in some ways a lot of things have stayed the same too!
Poor Tim has to take call tonight...what a happy way to celebrate right?! Here's to hoping that he gets off early enough today that we can go see him for a few minutes between shifts!
This past weekend we went camping with a group of friends at the beautiful Kent Park! I'm ashamed to admit it but it was Kate's first time camping! Kate has been so excited about going camping and couldn't stop talking about it the whole week. Fortunately it did not disappoint (although the above picture might show otherwise...she just didn't want to take a picture). Kate said it was the "best campout ever!" and loved making up songs about the campfire, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows, playing with friends, and playing in the tent. She was very sad to have me return the tent we borrowed.. As always Millie was easy going and other than waking up in the middle of the night did amazing. We loved being with friends, sitting around the fire, eating tin foil dinners, and spending time together. We will definitely be going camping again!
To celebrate Tim taking his big Step 2 board exam we headed down to St. Louis, MO for a weekend away! We love St. Louis! There is so much to do and so much of it is free! Highlights from this trip included: Cardinals Game at Busch Stadium, playing on the grass below Gateway Arch (Kate loved spotting the Arch each time we drove by...she's obsessed and still talking about it), BBQ at Pappy's Smokehouse, the camels and baby elephant at the Zoo, paddle boating in Forrest Park, dressing up like cows for free Chick-fil-a, Ted Drewes smores concrete, and the construction exhibit at the Science Center.
The past month we have been going to a weekly music class through our local rec center. It has been a lot of fun...with lots of moving, singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments! Kate was actually pretty shy and often wanted to just sit close to me...but she did love marching around the room and especially loved the crab clackers! Kate liked it but Millie LOVED music class. She by far enjoyed it the most. She'd bob her head, sing along, and would just grin from ear to ear the entire time!
I love the Fourth of July...the parades, the BBQs, the fireworks, and America! It can't get much better than that! Tim has been busy studying for his next big board exam but we were fortunate to steal him away from studying to go to Coralville's darling little parade and a BBQ with friends that evening! And not to mention he went nice and early and reserved us front row seats!
Kate was SO excited for the parade this year! She started talking about it a week before. And fortunately I did not disappoint. She got oodles of candy (which she was thrilled about) and enjoyed the small floats, horses and tractors (we are in Iowa after all). I always miss being in Utah this time of year but have really grown fond of our Iowa Fourth of July traditions.
We enjoyed a BBQ with some friends that evening and then Kate and I stayed up and went to fireworks. Last year Kate couldn't stop talking about them...even a year later she was still talking about them. However, this year she did NOT like how loud they were. She covered her ears the whole time and had to be wrapped in my arms. Although she said she wanted to go home I did catch her taking glimpse of the fireworks and she liked seeing the different colors! Poor Tim needed to study so he stayed home with sleeping Millie.
It was a fun filled day full of red, white, and blue, family-time, friends, good food, and fireworks! Couldn't have asked for a better day! God Bless this wonderful country that we live in!
Happy 9 month birthday to Miss Millie! We just can't get enough of this sweet, easy going gal. She is certainly growing up and we need time to slow down!
Millie loves sitting in her high chair and LOVES to eat! She nurses 5 times a day and then eats solids 3 times a day. She loves eating tiny bits of pretty much everything we are eating...recently tried french toast, meatballs, and chicken. She loves bread, yogurt, and fruits and veggies the most! She loves watermelon and cantaloupe. We are trying to teach her to make the "more" sign...but for now to say more she bangs on her left hand on her high chair tray. It's pretty cute!
Millie is talking like crazy! She has a lot to say! She has also found her voice and is starting to yell pretty loudly when she wants something or needs attention.
She continues to be so grabby. And especially loves to grab grass and try and eat it. I love how in many of the pictures we took this month she is doing just that.
She loves playing at her round about and is getting really good and pushing herself around to play at the different little play stations. And she is discovering a lot of new toys. She loves finger puppets, her little kitchen, Sophie, beads, our Fisher Price farm, and anything that makes noise. She also adores riding in our wagon when we go out for walks.
Has 4 teeth. And numbers 5 and 6 will be popping out any day!
Sleeps from 7pm-6:30am and takes 2 naps...8:30-10am and 1-3pm. I am very lucky!
Wears mostly size 6 months clothes but just pulled out a few 9 month things that aren't too big. Is now wearing size 3 diapers.
Millie is also starting to move...she isn't crawling yet but is really good and getting around by rolling and doing a backwards crawl (pushes herself backwards).
