First Time Sledding

I don't think I've mentioned what babies Iowans are when it comes to the's true...they really are. This past Thursday we got a decent snow storm like 5-6 inches of snow and the town pretty much shuts down. Schools get cancelled or at least delayed and the stores are empty because no one wants to go out. I mean come on! I guess living in East Salt Lake and probably only ever having 3 snow days my entire K-12 school I just can't believe it . Doesn't Iowa get a lot of snow each year? The answer is yes, always! It seems like they don't know what to do.

Anyway, off my soap box...this Saturday we took advantage of the snow and took Kate sledding for her first time! I was so excited to take her so when I found out our friends the Shaha's were going we got dressed in a hurry and headed out to the park right by our house. Kate didn't mind going down the hill but mostly preferred just walking around and being outside. She also seemed to really enjoy sitting in the sled and being pulled around.

Hope you are enjoying the snow and winter! My parents are in Hawaii right now...

21 months

Well...another month has flown by and Kate is now 21 months! I still can't believe she's closer to two years old then one. How time flies. We have been having a lot of fun and keeping busy with our weekly outings.

Here are a few new favorites to document:
  • Still loves talking care of all of her stuffed animal friends. She still especially favors her "Baby" penguin, Minnie Mouse, and Elmo.
  • Starting to really enjoy coloring with crayons and colored pencils. She actually prefers markers but I don't love the mess :)
  • Loves helping me cook! Is the best little helper!
  • Loves talking to family on mommy's cell phone, skype, or facetime.
  • Kate is a little gymnast. She loves doing headstands. And loves to perform for Grandma via skype.
  • Current favorite books are Roadwork, My Dad, and her Elmo Valentine book.
  • Favorite color is definitely yellow! She can pick out the yellow crayon out of a box but then  calls the others yellow too. Silly girl.
  • Vocab has exploded!
  • Loves singing all of the songs include "I've Been Working on the Railroad" and "Do As I'm Doing."
  • Loves to give Eskimo kisses!
  • In the past few weeks Kate said her first three phrase sentence "I see you." She loves peeking around corners and saying again and again. It's darling!
  • And tonight was seriously chowing down tilapia and couscous!

Happy 21 months Kate!

Mommy-and-Me Swim Class

Kate and I recently started taking a mom-and-me swim class through the University along with two of her friends.  Kate has a lot of fun (except when I dip her face into the water to blow bubbles) and does a really great job. Our little gal is quite a water baby! Swimming as been a perfect outing for us during these cold winter months.

My Little Helper

Kate has really taken to being my little helper! She is always climbing up to turn on the mixer, push the button on the food processor, wipe up spills, sweep, or vacuum. It is so dang cute.

Kate really enjoyed helping me mix up the football whoopie pie cookies we made for the Super Bowl! I love watching her eyes light up as she runs to grab the step stool so she can reach the counter. I love the pictures of me cooking with my mom and am so excited that Kate loves cooking with mom too. Now I need to make Kate a little Kate size apron...
