This little lady is growing up! We are sure enjoying her sweet smiles and pleasant demeanor! We received a glowing report at her 2 month appointment. Amelia is gaining weight as expected and looks fantastic. She loves watching her mobile on her swing and loves watching the lights in her floor gym. She is eating well and only gets up once in the middle of the night...how did I get so lucky?!
She didn't love her 2 month shots...you forget how hard they can cry! Kate never had much of a reaction to her immunizations other than being a bit more sleepy...but poor Millie was pretty fussy afterwards and was inconsolable for about an hour that afternoon but otherwise did great. Thanks goodness for Tylenol, it seemed to do the trick. Here are her 2 months stats:
Weight: 9 lbs 10 oz (14th%itle)
Height: 20 inches (still not on the chart!! Below the 3rd%itle but following her own curve quite nicely)

|Kate and Amelia's Thanksgiving Turkeys|
Thanksgiving is a big deal in the Sokol family and thinking about not being there almost made me cry. Surprisingly Tim ended up getting Wednesday off (and already had Thursday and Friday off) so we've had a lot of family time and had a lot of fun.
We had an awesome Thanksgiving meal at our house surrounded by good friends! Complete with 5 kinds of pie (I made 4 of them)! Grandma Bernice would be so proud!
What a beautiful day to gather as friends and family and reflect upon all of our many blessings. We have oh so much to be thankful for! Hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving as well!

Just last week Kate turned 2 1/2 years old! Whether it's becoming a big sister or just the fact that Amelia is so little... I feel like Kate has grown up so much!
Kate really is such a sweet, good girl! She has done extremely well with this new baby sister thing. I cannot even imagine how her world has just been turned upside down...going from the center of our world to now sharing our attention with a needy newborn. From the beginning I thought she would do well...she was so excited throughout my pregnancy talking about her baby sister. She came to every prenatal appointment including all 7 of my ultrasounds. She totally looked forward to going to "see Millie" and see "Dr. Ward" and pushing all the door and elevator buttons. My doctor loves Kate and would have Kate hold that little doppler thing so she would listen to sister's heartbeat. Then, I think our week long stay in the hospital helped her be really excited about Amelia too. Kate totally loved coming to visit us and still talks about and asks to go to the hospital.
I am very thankful she has done so well. Kate is very careful around Millie and has never tried to swat/hit or anything like that. She loves to join Millie for tummy time, put her pacifier back in, and throw away her diapers. Kate loves to tell us "I'm a big helper!" She gets worried about where Millie is if she can't immediately see her and loves having Millie read stories with her. There of course have been the occasion running and sitting into the rocking chair or confiscating my boppy pillow so I can't nurse Millie but overall it's been great. But then we have had a roller coaster ride in the sleep department! Kate has started getting up later, taking longer to go to bed, and has had several napping strikes. However, I think I've got her back to taking a nap everyday (thank goodness) and we call it a victory is she sleeps till 6am!
I am just overwhelmed by the love I have for my girls and just feel so fortunate to be Kate and Amelia's mama!
Here are a few more fun things about Kate:
- "Baby" her penguin is still the greatest friend ever!
- Favorite toys...definitely her doctor kit (I think this girls going to be PA or nurse), Mickey Mouse and friends figurines, Princess figurines, and her purse full of Halloween candy that she still hasn't eaten and sorts daily. She has also really gotten into puzzles!
- Still loves going to nursery. On our ride home every Sunday Kate gives me a full report on who cried and who was there! They recently had a lesson on sharing that made quite the impact!
- Adores anything Minnie Mouse, Disney Princesses, or Sophia the First!
- Can count to 12
- Cracks us up daily with the things that she says! I've got to get better at writing them all down...
- Is getting so good at saying "Please" and "Thank you!
- Is really excited about Santa Clause bringing her presents...but also understands that we celebrate Christmas because of "Baby Jesus."
- Loved decorating our Christmas tree...told me "our Christmas tree looks awesome!"
- It's obsessed with the TV show Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She also loves Elmo (especially Elmo Visits the Doctor) and Doc McStuffins. She may or may not have watched more television in the past 6 weeks than her entire life prior to Amelia's arrival :)
- Loves technology! Especially loves playing on "Daddy's iPad." The other day when she asked to play with it and Tim had taken it with him for the day...Kate replied "we need to go buy another one! I need a mini iPad"
I feel bad, with all of our sleep issues, I think I've had several thoughts about how challenging she is. But if I take a step back I remember what good, sweet, fun girl she really is. I wouldn't trade my spunky Kate for anything! I really wish I could bottle up this time and save it forever! I totally love these pictures my friend, Melissa, took of Kate. They capture her personality just perfectly!

Our little Amelia is already a month old! How is that even possible? How time flies? But then again, I guess a lot has happened...and I'm tired...so that must mean I've been waking up in the middle of the night for at least a little bit to accrue some sleep debt :) Although I shouldn't complain...Amelia only gets up usually twice a night and goes back to sleep quite easily.
Anyway, she is just a delight! She is a very calm, sweet little babe who loves to snuggle. She loves to be held and doesn't seem to like her swing as much as Kate did. Or maybe it's just that I'm off chasing Kate and Amelia needs my attention too. This two kid thing isn't easy. I feel like I can't be the mom I want to be for both of them...but I am trying to be patient with myself and am learning how to not split my time and love but rather increase it :)
Amelia is feeding like a champ! She eats every 2-3 hours and likes to cluster feed in the evenings. She took her first bottle on Wednesday November 6th and did quite well. She is starting to social smile...or at least I think so. She loves hearing Kate's voice and doesn't seem to mind when Kate takes her blanket or a toy :) Just so happy that she is here and is growing and healthy!
1 month stats:
Weight- 7 lbs 5 oz (10%tie)
Height- 19 in (<3%tile)

Happy Halloween! We especially had fun this year!
My mom always made the most amazing Halloween costumes each year! Although Kate is only 2 and won't even remember I wanted to start the great tradition of making cool costumes this year! With my due date in the middle of October I made sure to plan ahead and got the dress done ahead of schedule and well before Amelia's arrival. But I finished the gloves the night before I went into labor and Tim actually made the bow to put on the ears after Amelia arrived! Kate looked so cute! She wore her ears most of the time but like I expected the gloves didn't last long at all...oh well. Then with Amelia only being 3 weeks, we settled on just wearing pumpkin jammies...I initially wanted to dress her up at Figaro, Minnie's black cat, but decided not to bother.
This was the first year we took Kate trick-or-treating...she totally loved it and really "got" it. She loved scampering from house to house to collect her candy! Although it is totally funny...she isn't interested in eating any of the candy... she just likes to pull out of her bag, arrange and sort it, put it back in, and to it over and over again! Silly girl!
We had several fun activities to celebrate Halloween including: our ward Halloween Party and Trunk-or-Treat, the 2nd Annual Med School Halloween Parade, and of coarse, Trick-or-Treating!

We ran into several little hiccups while trying to get some newborn pictures of Amelia...not only did we not get out of the hospital until Amelia was a week old, we ended up having two photographers fall through. Fortunately, one of Tim's classmates who is into photography (who has never taken a picture of a baby before) was willing to give it a try... I think we totally lucked out. Here are some of our favorites...

It wasn't until Sunday, the 6th, the day after Amelia was born, that we learned that because of her infection she would need a week long course of IV antibiotics... I had been told we would be discharging on Monday at 11am so this came as quite the shock.
Thankfully my mom flew out as soon as she could and arrived on Sunday evening. It was pretty cute, in the weeks that preceded Amelia's arrival, we would tell Kate that Grandma was coming...she was coming because we needed some help. Kate didn't stop saying, "Grandma coming...we need help" for weeks. We knew we were going to need help but it wasn't until we realized that we'd be at the hospital so long just how much help we really did need.
Fortunately they let us stay on the mother baby until Wednesday at 2pm when they just got too full and we had to transfer to one of the pediatric floors. It was quite shocking going from our extremely nice mother baby room complete with double bed and a huge jetted tub to the tiny room (that they initially told me I was going to have to share with another newborn) with just a shower, and one of those fold out chair beds.
It was a long week but Amelia got the care that she needed and Kate really loved coming to the hospital (she is still talking about it all). Fortunately by Friday morning Amelia's labs looked good and we were told we could discharge. We finally made it home on Friday night at 9:42pm!
It was certainly a trying week but ultimately we realize we were lucky that things went as well as they did. It could have been so much worse. Amelia really wasn't that sick and she just needed her antibiotics. We are very thankful for the good care that we received and were just happy to finally make it home!
