Happy Birthday Tim!

Yesterday was Tim's birthday! We had a fun day complete with good food, cupcakes, ice cream cake, presents, and friends.

Tim got some awesome gifts including this cool new longboard from his parents. Kate especially loved rolling on it and was really good at propelling herself. She actually put two holes in her footed pajamas doing it :)

We enjoyed dinner out at the Hamburg Inn and even had our dear friends, the Fowlers, come into town that night to stay at our place as they drove through Iowa on their way to begin Brent's residency in Maine.

Happy Birthday Tim! We love you!

Lake Delton, WI

For Memorial Weekend we decided to plan a little getaway!  Although Lake Delton is next to the Wisconsin Dells, where we went for Spring Break, we had a totally different experience. We stayed at this great place right on the lake and spent the weekend canoeing down the Wisconsin River, riding bikes, hiking in Devils Lake State Park, and enjoying our friends! We had a great time!

Kate did great sitting on the floor of the canoe between my legs

The Fun Has Begun

Kate and I have really been enjoying having Tim back...those last few weeks of finals were pretty tough. But now we can say one year down!

Since this is Tim's only summer off we have plans to play hard and live it up! We made a list of various activities and places we want to visit and are already starting to check some of them off.

This weekend of full of bike rides, swimming outside, and enjoying some much needed family time. We headed out to West Branch, IA to check out the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum. It was actually really cool and I learned so much. I'll be honest, I didn't know a whole lot about Pres. Hoover. We also hit a UofI baseball game, went to Nauvoo, and even went to Snake Alley in Burlington, IA. It rivals San Fran's Lombard Street claiming to be the "Crookedest Street in the World!" It was pretty awesome!

I can's going to be a great summer!

Thank Goodness for Serviettes!

Happy Serviette Day! Some of you may ask...what is Serviette Day? To keep a long story short...let's just say it is a holiday my friends and I started back in high school that involved celebrating serviettes- what you usually call napkins. I mean seriously who really wants to call something you wipe your face with a napkin?! Not me!

A day to celebrate napkins...perhaps a little silly but I tell you what, much joy has come from celebrating and having a reason to get together is never a bad idea! We've been celebrating now for 10 years! Here's a few pics from years past!

For years we even made awesome t-shirts!

12 months

Here are the stats after Kate's 1 year appointment:

Weight: 18 lbs 5 oz 10th percentile
Length: 28.8 inches 25th percentile
Head: 17.5 inches 33rd percentile

Kate is busier than ever! She recently started crawling last week but prefers to scoot! I love how she just can follow me all over the house.  She is getting good at pulling herself up to stand and enjoys climbing on us. She can walk using with her walker toy but doesn't go very far and prefers to hold on to our fingers to walk around. Kate is loving her new birthday toys, particularly her little play kitchen and the sunny-side egg that came with it. She continues to absolutely love flipping through books and loves to put phones up to her ear like she is talking. She also loves having her Little People wheelie car cruise on the floor. I don't think I've mentioned how much she loves the red ballon in her Good Night Moon book, it's so cute. She flips through each page and only stops and likes to look at the pages that have the ballon on them. I made sure we had some extra red ballons at her party :)

Kate continues to be an amazing eater. She loves everything although is slowly getting used to cows milk. I guess she still prefers her mommy milk... I am happy to say we made it a whole year breastfeeding!! Boo-yeah! We newly discovered that she loves beef stroganoff and sweet and sour meatballs. But she is totally a fruit girl.

She loves playing peek-a-boo (especially when she uses her hands to block her eyes), and also just started using the sign for "all done." She continues to be so sweet and loves to giggle and smile!

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day! Today was an extra special was actually my first official Mother's Day!  Kate was born 4 days after Mother's Day last year. So it seemed just a little extra sweet!

I am certainly thankful for my amazing mom! I hope she knows what an influence she has been on me! She is the world's greatest mother and who I am striving to become like each day! I am also thankful for a great mother-in-law and awesome sisters-in-law as well as the many other women that have influenced me from grandmas and ward members to my amazing friends. I have a lot of friends that have became mothers this past along with me, how fun! What a great day to celebrate the women in our lives!

The BIG Day

I know I keep saying it...but gosh...I just can't believe our little baby is now 1 year old! I took a lot of pictures to document this special occasion..see below :)

It was a special day totally dedicated to celebrating Kate! We had a lot of fun at her party and are grateful for some sweet friends that came to celebrate! Kate really enjoyed opening her presents and was not really interested in eating any of her cake. She just poked at it a bit and finally decided to spread a little of the frosting on her legs.

It was sad to not have our families here to celebrate. We really missed you!  Thank you for the fun gifts that you sent. Kate is one lucky girl!

I had a lot of fun prepping for the party. It was rainbow themed. We just had a bunch of brightly colored decorations and I made this fun rainbow layered cake that turned out awesome! We also had frozen yogurt with rainbow colored fruit toppings.

It really was a great day! Kate had a lot of fun and we sure are grateful she is our sweet little girl! We love you Kate!

Growing Kate

So I've been thinking a lot about this past year...a lot has happened, a lot has changed... But even though Kate is growing up and changing's fun to look back and see how much she has stayed the same too!

The big birthday is almost here! We've been having lots of extra fun this week- a picnic at the park, bike riding, swimming, lots of walks and playing outside, playing with friends, eating special treats, and just enjoying life! Kate sure knows how to have fun! She's ready to party!
